What We Do

What Does it Take?

Systems Building: State-to-local infrastructure of state's school readiness efforts.
The Virginia Early Childhood Foundation serves as the convener between public and private sectors to increase efficiencies, encourage innovation and create partnerships.  The Foundation supports a state wide network of Smart Beginnings collaborative partnerships that convene community leaders to build the capacity of local communities to create optimal environments for children's growth and development.  VECF works with Smart Beginnings partners across the state to understand barriers and promote opportunities for increasing access to high quality early learning. Focus on Quality: The research-proven driver of school readiness.
Virginia's Quality Rating and Improvement System is jointly administered with the Virginia Department of Social Services to publish quality rating of early learning programs in all types of settings for parents.  The initiative provides support so that programs can voluntarily improve the quality of services they provide.  In addition, VECF promotes strategies to support teacher quality in Virginia.  Learn more.

Research and Data: Driving evidence and data based decision making.
As the public/private leader in advancing Virginia's school readiness, we recognize that better measures and tools are needed to inform performance and guide progress.  VECF is working to drive improved outcomes for children through these efforts.  Learn more.
